What
take herbs and what are they?
|
At Botanical Bliss Ltd we believe that if your
digestion and colon are working well then there is more balance
and harmony within your body, mind and emotions. We work with
a dedicated team of therapists, using a unique blend of some of
the best herbs which can aid your health and well being during
your journey into the world of colonics.
Herbs are used in conjunction with colonic hydrotherapy as it
has been shown that they are very efficient in helping the process
of cleansing the colon and alleviating digestive problems in general.
Herbs together with colonics are used in the following ways:
Taken for 2-4 weeks prior to the first colonic treatment. This
makes the colonic treatment a much more comfortable experience
and it has shown that in most cases there is virtually no gut
spasm during the treatment. The herbs also help to make bowel
movements more regular, remove bloating and gas, remove toxins
and improve digestion.
Liquid herbal preparations can be added to the colonic water.
These ease out any spasms by working on the smooth muscle and
toning the colon and can help with feelings of anxiety as well
as assisting in removing toxins.
Herbal preparations for after treatment. These can make the treatment
more effective by continuing the work which the colonic has begun
and may include capsules, tinctures or teas.
Herbal and essential oil massage creams may be used to relax
the abdomen and help in preventing spasm and bloating.
Herb teas to take on an on-going basis to help with bloating,
improve digestion and remove anxiety.
Probiotics are often taken after a Colonic, you will be advised
if you need to take these after your session.

HERBAL MEDICINE
In all ancient civilisations, herbs have played a vital
role in healing. The Egyptian Papri, dating back to 1700BC,
records many herbs such as garlic & juniper, which
have been used medically for 4000 years. Hippocrates in
468-377BC Greece categorized all food & herbs. Pedanius
Dioscorides wrote the Materia Medica around 60AD &
his work remained the standard textbook for 1500 years.
The Arab world also contributed greatly. Their most important
work was the Kitab al-Qanum. It was translated into Latin
& became one of the leading textbooks in Western medical
schools. The earliest Indian (Ayurvedic) & Chinese
texts using herbals were around 2500BC.
In Europe, after the fall of the Roman Empire & the
Dark Ages, many herbal practices were spread by Christianity.
The most famous school was at Salerno, Italy, which was
founded in the 10th century, teaching the Hippocratic
principles of good diet, fresh air & exercise. By
the 1530's, healing & herbs moved away from the cloister.
Paracelsus, an alchemist & physician revolutionized
European healthcare by speaking in German instead of Latin.
William Turner, a physician, wrote in English, & Nicholas
Culpepper, during the 1600's translated the Pharmacopoeia
into English.
The native American & European settlers shared much
of their knowledge. In the 1700's Samuel Thompson, founded
Physiomedicalism, which combined knowledge of both European
& Native American skills. His handbook & remedies
swept across the US in the 19th century, and claimed 3
million followers. Eclecticism, founded by Wooster Beech
in the 1830's, followed Thompson's principles, but combined
more orthodox medicine. In 1838, Dr. Albert Coffin brought
Physiomedicalism & Eclecticism to Great Britain &
it remained popular until the 1930's.
In the US in 1907, a dramatic setback occurred in Natural
Medicine. Two powerful businessmen, Carnegie & Rockefeller,
gave total financial support to the developing chemical
drug industry, knowing that vast amounts of money could
be made with patentable drugs, unlike herbal medicine.
Over a five year period, hundreds of Herbal & Natural
Health Colleges shut down due to this move. It would take
many years before a re-birth would take place. Today,
the use of Western, Ayurvedic, Chinese & Tibetan herbs
are being researched and grown worldwide along with their
vital place in natural healthcare.
